The First Love series takes a look at how different individuals in the community keep Christ the first loves in their lives. Meet Paul and Laura Wynn, a couple who has been married for 31 years (they were married when they were 5) who have 3 kids ages 28, 24, and 23.
Early in a relationship, you try to project an image of perfection, whether it be the first date, the first year of dating, maybe even the first year of marriage. But by the time you have been married for 30 years, if there was ever any allusion of perfection, it is long gone. Shattered by the first big fight, the first big move, the first child birth, there are lots of opportunities to ding that new car.
Our relationship with each other cannot survive the scrutiny of perfection. If we tried to love each other through the fear of failure, we would not still be standing. And many are not. In 30 years, we have seen many marriages fail. Even marriages between two believers. But it is hardly something we can take credit for.
Ultimately, we have had to remember that we are not perfect, and that the only reason we are still standing is because he loves us and we have to try to see each other through his eyes.
